(This may be recorded slightly quieter than usual -- turn your volume knob if necessary)
Open forum time! We mostly chatted about what other people talked about what with movies and 2014 and all that.
We dwelled on Intersteller and science and gravity and love during the second half of this recording.
Blast from the past! Our old buddy Chad from the early days of Geeking Off flew in from Hawaii and joined us about halfway through.
This is Edgar Wright's year end list that we referenced throughout the podcast.
This is the video list that we made minor mention of, but never returned to. (watch it! amazing.)
This is probably the Tilda Swinton/Amy Schumer thing that Zo was talking about.
This is that thing from Futurama's Scary Door.
This is that Science Friday thing with Christopher Nolan and Kip Thorne.
This is Kepler 22b.

Geeking Off 139: Welcome ta Urf!
How about another LOST episode? This one was recorded waaaay back in August I think. The file was meticulously extracted off of my broken laptop and it's here for you to enjoy and curate into your own collection.
What's this one about? It's a lot of girth continuing our sci-fi talk. This time we each do a sci-fi top five of a different sci-fi sub-genre. We foolishly assumed this would only take an hour. It took two. Obviously we get hung up on lots of movies that didn't make the lists.

Geeking Off 138: Hard Science, Soft Fiction
After a quick review of Guardians of the Galaxy (long overdue), we went into a lengthy discussion on the span of squishiness within the science fiction genre. Pretty much the point of sci-fi's existence between the scientific and escapism.
Stay tuned to the end where we stuck in a long outtake of some of Jeremy's recent filmmaking experiences as well as recent TV watching. The usual stuff.

Geeking Off 137: Summer Screens
Obviously this was recorded a few weeks ago. Again, we speak of Guardians of the Galaxy in the future tense.
In the meantime though, this is our conversation of summer TV we're catching up (mostly Zo) and a few impressions on Summer movies. One of us feels the summer movie season "blows." Listen to find out who! Okay fine. That's not a super fun reason to listen. Still, quite a bit about Jodorowskys Dune in there.
Apologies for the hot mics. Our engineer is now sacked.

Geeking Off 136: The Geeks Inherited Too Much Earth
Welcome back!
This was a hodgy-podgy one. More than usual. We opened things up with the return of the imdb trivia game, then briefly discussed planning to see the best documentaries available on Netflix. We got into a short (I was hoping for longer) discussion on whether geek culture has overstayed its welcome and the possibility of its popularity going away. The conversation then went to speaking of various cons, followed by movie trailers and of course we wrapped it up with some work to the Geeking Off Flickchart.
Special note. Obviously this was recorded before Guardians of the Galaxy came out. Perhaps you'll find it downright quaint how we talk about it in future tense. I still stand by much of what I predicted. It's almost like Guardians is this generation's Goonies.

Geeking Off 135: Film Snobs? Midnight Movies? Speed Dating?
We started off comparing each other's film snobbery according to an online quiz. Then we went over the Tower's summer movie late-night schedule and produced our own recommendations. After that we went back to discussing our own general filmy attitudes compared to the heathens we spend our lives around. Then, a short story of sci-fi speed dating.

Geeking Off 134: Rhett Takes Over
Guest Rhett takes over Geeking Off with discussions of how movies are the new comic books, Frozen isn't worth talking about, the cost of producing watchable video, the aspects of appreciating independent cinema and the forgotten benefits of non-binge television watching.
All this and a community Flickchart wrap-up!

Geeking Off 133: Sundance 2014
Okay, once again, this one was recorded soon after Sundance ended. As a result, there are casual mentions of Woody Allen and Philip Seymour Hoffman without recent newsworthy comments.
Right, but ANYWAY, here are our Sundance thoughts. There was a pretty heavy variance between us in what we saw and a pretty big swath of movie types that were viewed. SPOILER ALERT: this past Sundance Film Festival was a rousing success. Not very arousing though. More violence than sex probably.
Jeremy. Jon. Scott.

Geeking Off 132: 2013 Awards and Movies
Jeremy, Jon and Scott. Okay, here's how this one goes down. We talk a little TV for like five minutes, then the podcast starts, then Oscar nominations for a half hour, then about 70 minutes of favorite movies from 2013, then the ones we hated, then the podcast ends, then Jeremy burps into the microphone. SPOILERS.
