Geeking Off 112: Adam's Song

Just so everybody knows, this particular podcast cost about $200.00 to produce (a result of hardware failure). You better enjoy this. If you can.

We spent the whole time going over listener comments... which are pretty much from one guy. Hey everyone else out there, consider what we talk about relevant to you a little anyway.

Oh, and also, download it here!

Here is a link to that Empire filmumentary thing I mentioned:

  1. Wow. I feel so honored. My wife says I’m a huge nerd, but she just doesn’t understand the lasting importance of the debates we have the merits of Bad Boys 2, and whether or not The Taking of Pelham 123 can be used synonymously with The Assault on Precinct 13.

Scott, it is crazy that you and I had the same confusion about those two movies. How is that? Do you and I just think Laurence Fishburne is a great blacks-csimile for Denzel Washington? Maybe for the next Sin City 2, Ving Rhames would be a great blacks-csimile for the late Michael Clarke Duncan?

BTW, I think the word Zo was trying to think of around the hour mark to redact Scott’s review of Precinct 13/Pelham 123 was “Addendum”. Just a guess…

Speaking of Pelham… I just finished watching the original with Walter Matthau. It was actually pretty good, and who doesn’t like seeing a younger Jerry Stiller? I had a few sticking points (the guy that fries himself by touching the third rail with his leather/rubber shoe? I can’t think of anything else that would have insulated him better against the DC current, but whatever….) The music was great, and seeing a younger Walter on screen was fun.

Jon, (maybe it was Scott?) you were spot on about Lost. You thought I might disagree with you, but everything you said about Lost was right on. I actually thought Nicki was hot as well, and I enjoyed the episode focusing on them (with the exception of “Razzle Dazzle!”, which was horrible). The writers were absolutely more focused on wrapping up the series to be a more character-driven series, than necessarily revealing all of the secrets to the mysteries they created. It could have been a cop-out, but they justified it that as people, we will never know all of the secrets to all of the mysteries, and that is how we needed to look at the show.
And Zo, you still stay awake for five episodes of the old Battlestar Galactica, but not for two episodes of Lost? I DEMAND AN EXPLANATION!

I am somewhat embarrassed to say that I too have seen every episode of “Heroes”. I just kept hoping it would get better. Then when they brought on Robert Knepper (Theodore Bagwell from “Prison Break”) for the final season, I had to stick it out. Anyone knick-named “T-Bag” has to be respected. That guy is awesome. Has there ever been such a huge fall-off from the first season? I know that there have been, but those series are usually cancelled quickly after the drop off. Heroes went for four seasons. Stupid fans. We should be caned and flogged.

I have to admit, I like Bad Boys 2 quite a bit, but certainly not as much as all of my previous comments would have indicated. Those were mostly to get Jeremy’s goat, and then I felt like they were somewhat wasted when he wasn’t there to be forced into further discussion about a film he obviously loves down deep. He’s a closet Bad Boy.

The executives at Hasbro should be forced to smell the breath of a hobo after eating a block of bleu cheese for killing off Optimus in the first 15 min. of Transformers: The Movie. They admitted later that they made a huge mistake in getting ride of so many beloved characters, simply for the purpose of selling a new line of toys. Greedy dirt-bags. They realized their mistake too late, and resurrected Optimus late in season 3, but only after the writing was on the wall and the series was cancelled after only three episodes in season 4.
I will give it to you that the creators had balls though… They had some of the characters say “Damn” and “Shit” throughout the movie to give it a more “edgy” feel. In a kids movie. Ballsy.
How do I know all this stuff? Where did my life go wrong? Wow. I am a nerd.

  2. I hate you guys. I comment on everything!!!! It's not my fault your blog deleted some of my comments. You should talk about me way more on fan appreciation day. I feel like I need a post with my name as the title. Make it happen.

  3. Jon, concerning Quidditch, the Seeker who catches the snitch gets $150 points, but does not necessarily win the game. The Chasers make goals throughout the game worth 10 points each, so if someone is dominating and scoring a lot they could end up having more points than what the Seeker scores at the end.

Also, HP is the bomb.dot.com!! Don't second guess their time travel choices!
