Geeking Off 109: R.I.P. Tony Scott

Just so ya'll know, we're not that behind the times. We recorded the Tony Scott tribute just a couple of days after the death.

Tony, if you listen or if you're reading this. I'm sorry. We were sometimes offensive and sometimes mean, but I think you came out on top of this one.

We go over every Tony Scott film. Were we right in the opinions? Yes. Yes we were. That question was rhetorical.

  1. Days of Thunder was totally a reboot of Top Gun w/ Nascar. Jeremy, which movie did you watch? I have to see that it was definitely the “poor man’s version” of Top Gun too… Hated it! (Done in your best Damon Wayans “In Living Color” gay lisp”

I actually liked the taking of Pelham 123. Was it great or memorable? No. If fact, for the first part of discussing this movie, I kept thinking about The Assault on Precinct 13. That’s how well I remembered this movie. But I do remember being entertained and wishing that James Gandolphini would have been in it more.

Overall, I held the same sentiment as you all did that most of Tony Scott’s movies were topically entertaining, but not entirely memorable or classic (with the exception of Top Gun, which I believe is probably his best, but mostly based on a combination of an awesome soundtrack and nostalgia. Val Kilmer’s hair was also pretty awesome.)

  3. Hearing you guys mention me makes not only my day, but my whole life!! I love when people talk about me...in a good way.

Jeremy I will refrain from using amazeballs so much in the future. I didn't know I said it that much, but it does makes sentences so much more exciting! Ps- Jeremy I'm always shocked the movies you actually like and don't like. Sometimes I worry about your taste in movies.

So onto Tony Scott...honestly I never knew he did all those movies...or actually who did those movies. This first movie you mentioned with David Bowie playing a vampire though, soooo need to watch that!! David Bowie is my childhood crush!

Soooo, was Tony Scott gay?? Just curious cause that volleyball scene in Top Gun (playing with them boys!) could not have been thought up by a straight man. That's like every girls fantasy. Ice Man was soooo hot!! Oh Val Kilmer what happened to you!?!

Spy Game was awesome! Why did it take the movie world so long to get Redford and Pitt together?!? They could be related and both are so dreamy!! Another reason why Tony Scott may be gay.

All in all Tony Scott did a lot of fun entertaining flicks...I'm surprised he wasn't more of a name. Maybe that's why he killed himself?

Ps- I will feed Scott brain foods so that he doesn't make a fool of himself anymore.
